This year’s virtual North American Ornithological Conference (NAOC) will include a special live storytelling event akin to last year’s AOS event in Alaska. If you’ve ever listened to The Moth on NPR or been to a Story Collider event at another conference, you know what to expect. We need your stories to make this event a success!
We’re seeking enthusiastic storytellers to share interesting and personal stories about their experiences in ornithology and ecology with the NAOC community. Story ideas include a field work (mis)adventure, the tale of your most exciting scientific breakthrough, an experience sharing your research with the public, how you first got interested in birds, or your experiences in ornithology. With your storytelling, we hope to amplify the diversity of voices present in ornithology and highlight a variety of experiences in the lab and field.
If you’d be interested in joining us on the virtual stage to share a personal story of your experiences in ornithology, please fill out this google form with a short pitch of your story (200-word max) by July 1st.
Registration for the virtual NAOC is free for all students and early-career professionals.

This year, we’ll select five stories that reflect the breadth and depth of experiences within our ornithological community. The storytelling event will become a regular part of AOS and NAOC meetings, so don’t be discouraged if your story isn’t chosen this year; we’ll offer future opportunities to contribute your stories.
