To facilitate understanding by most or all participants, we are strongly recommending that all presentation slides and posters present text in two languages: English and one other language (likely Spanish, but could be Portuguese or French). This applies to the text used in titles and main points on slides for oral presentations and to the title and abstract/summary text for poster presentations. Presenters who are interested in receiving help translating their text into a second language can submit their requests to our team of volunteer translators, who will return translations within 48 hours. This service is available until 10 August. Further details and instructions for this service can be found on the translation request form. 

Para la mejor comprensión de la mayoría o todos los participantes, estamos solicitando que todas las diapositivas o láminas y posters presenten el texto en dos idiomas: Inglés y otro idioma (como español, también puede ser portugues o francés). CALL FOR PHOTOS: The NAOC Diversity and Inclusion Committee is highlighting the contributions of Black, Hispanic/Latino/Latinx, and Indigenous ornithologists. Recent (and persistent) reminders of racism in our world, as well as #BlackBirdersWeek, make clear the need to challenge assumptions about who can be an ornithologist while sending a message of belonging to people from underrepresented communities.

One approach will be to increase the visibility of the science conducted by members of these communities. We will start each scientific session with photos of ornithologists, along with descriptions of what they do for their work. Our hope is that these pictures will elevate the essential and influential contributions of these communities.

We would love to include as many people as possible. If you are a self-identified Black, Hispanic/Latino/Latinx, or Indigenous ornithologist, please consider submitting a photo that shows the work you do. Please upload a good-quality photo and a one-sentence caption describing what you are doing and why (in a text or Word doc) to NAOC 2020 Photo Submissions by Monday, 20 July. SOLICITUD DE FOTOS: El Comité de Diversidad e Inclusión de NAOC quiere resaltar las contribuciones de ornitólogos afrodescendientes, hispanos/latinos e indígenas. Los acontecimientos recientes (y persistentes) sobre el racismo en nuestro mundo, así como #BlackBirdersWeek, dejan en claro la necesidad de desafiar los prejuicios sobre quién puede ser ornitólogo/a y además transmitir un mensaje de pertenencia a personas de comunidades poco representadas.

Uno de nuestros enfoques será aumentar la visibilidad de la ciencia llevada a cabo por los miembros de estas comunidades. Comenzaremos cada sesión científica con fotos de ornitólogos, junto con descripciones de lo que hacen por su trabajo. Nuestra esperanza es que estas fotos eleven las contribuciones esenciales e influyentes de estas comunidades.

Nos encantaría incluir a tantas personas como sea posible. Si Ud. se identifica como ornitólogo/a afrodescendiente, latino/a, o indígena, anímese a enviar una foto de Ud. haciendo su trabajo a NAOC 2020 Photo Submissions antes del lunes 20 de julio.
